Which memory card is best. Sandisk or Lexar. This post teaches digital photographers a few tips about memory cards for DSLR cameras.

Serial Line: This should be the COM port that your RS232 is port is listed as, this can be determined by the your system HW manager but in my case it should be COM 1.

I received a RescuePro CD with my Sandisk Extreme III card. I need to recover some files from a disk and today is the first time I looked at the software, it asks for a serial number when I run it. There is no serial number in the mini CD or on the CD cover, nothing nowhere in sight. How on earth are we supposed to run this.

Dear sir i have been submit last 7 days above my ultra micro sd card32 GB and my replacment refrence no is RX590617 so please conform me whata is the current stats of my replacment and how much more days i will be receive my card.please inform me.

DISCLAIMER:  Yes, I know that formatting this card as FAT32 voids all warranties. Never mind that, as I have a specific reason why I want to do this. Although I know from others that this can be done, I have yet to discover the exact methodology.

How can I format my 64GB uSDHC card as FAT32. I have SD Formatter 3.1 from the SD Association, but the user guide is cryptic at best. The formatting tool recognizes the card as 59.4GB, but the Option choices are only Format Size Adjustment ON/OFF. And what s the FORMAT TYPE difference between  between FULL Erase and FULL Overwrite.

If not the SD Formatter, then what are the specific instructions  known to you to yield the desired results for formatting this card as FAT32. Thanks.

Hello.

Tow month ago i bought 32Gb microsd card for my samsong galaxy s3.

It workd perfect until today.

I sudenly got this massege: The sd card is empty or not in the right format.

Since than i can t use it and all the data has gon.

What shuold i do.

I m not sure what s going on with new ultra/extreme/fast/UDMA Sandisk cards For years I have shot without any problems, I ve had all kind of cards, 1Gb, 2Gb, 4Gb, 8Gb

but since the fast Extreme cards, i have a lot of troubles with the CF cards of Sandisk. I shoot Canon, 5DmkII/III and 1DmkIV, I shoot semi professional, I m a CPS member and take good care of my gear. I use it a lot, under difficult circumstances I shoot wind/kite surf, in rain/heavy winds sometimes. I bought SanDisk because everybody recommends them for professional use. These days, I m really hesitate, and I don t buy those extreme faster then fast SanDisk cards anymore. They don t live up with the fastness. There are some test around that confirm SandDisk never reaches those speeds, and I have the feeling the fastness of the card creates more problems then it s slower versions and for photography you don t need more then 30Mb/s.. believe, i know   I only bought faster cards for video.

I have problems with:

CF Extreme UDMA 60Mb/s - 32 Gb

- my 5D mkIII doesn t regonize it sometimes if I put it in again, it sometimes works and no, it s not my 5D, because it s brand new with new firmware and does other cards without any problem

- yesterday the card wasn t recognized by any camera/PC luckily I already moved the files of that card earlier, but I would have been quite pissed if I lost all material due to this. Format by 5D didn t work, format by the 1DmkIV worked after that, card worked normally.

- I loose sometimes RAW files after I edited this from the CF card in Canon s DPP, and converted that to JPEG on my HDD I lost a couple of RAW files this way Is NOT acceptable, and yeah I should transfer the files first, which I do now, but then again it should NOT happen

SD Extreme 32GB 45mb/s

- this one is known to be buggy. I know that now. SKIP THE 45MB/S cards.. Really. Keep away from them..

I have a Panasonic GH2, with that russian hack, so the bitrates are higher. Is a proven concept, lot s of user use it without problems  If you read about it, you ll see that the 30Mb/s is way better then the 45Mb/s for video.. There are some tests around that even show that this 45Mb/s is never reaches the 45Mb and is even slower then the 30Mb/s

I had troubles with it also.

- Panasonic GH2 with hack, stops filming after 45 minutes. The hack removes the 30 minutes barriere, and I tested it, it worked, I could film until battery was empty or card was full. Not on that SanDisk it just stopped suddenly I lost video during a payed shoot in a theatre, and it stopped during another shoot after 20 minutes..  Other cards no problems..

- Canon 1DmkIV. I used it as extra card next to my CF card 1DmkIV has a CF and a SD slot. Normally with CF, I never have troubles with 10 fps works nice. When the CF was full, the camera switched to the SD and after shooting some photo s, the camera frooze after a sequence of 15 photo s in 1 go. camera LED s kept flashing, could not watch photo s, couldn t do anything. problem was this buggy card It is NOT up to the task, and should not called be a PRO card.  Even my old CF cards keep up with the 1D speed. and 45Mb/s should be more then enough. but it doesn t and worse, it freezes the camera for quite some time I had to wait 3 minutes.. . With other cards you cannot always look up the photo s directly, but, you can watch the once who are done and you can keep shooting with this card I couldn t do anything

I don t use that card anymore, bought a 32Gb 30Mb/s version, which works fine. and is way cheaper

Never buy the 45Mb/s version, buy the 30Mb/s. That s advice on numerouse video fori..  I have 2 16Gb/30Mb/s cards and now 1 32Gb on 30Mb/s, have NO problems what so ever the fast Extreme cards.  lost material, lost speed. buggy. I have the feeling UDMA fast extreme is a big failure of SanDisk and seeing here on this board, I m not the only one, and I don t see any responses of SanDisk other then send it to SanDisk That s nice, but I don t trust these kind of cards anymore. I buy 30Mb/s cards, but I skip those Ultra/Extreme versions. They cost a lot of money but are NOT worth it, even get you in trouble.

Ow btw, I never format CF/SD cards on the computer, and I use  all in one USB 3 card reader. I always format the card in the camera before I start a shoot.

Hi guys,

I had to go abroad quite urgently in late November, I wanted to bring my camera along and since I couldn t bring my laptop I went and bought this memory card from Curry s on the day I was to go away as I was very short on time.

Obviously this is a huge brand so I had no problem paying a bit extra for it. Sadly, upon arriving at my destination I saw that my camera wouldn t recognise it, asking me to format it first. I wasn t able to do so using my camera itself so I borrowed someone s laptop instead and tried formatting it using Windows usual formatting thing - still no luck.

I thought that since there was no internet there maybe their drivers were not updated so I waited until I got back to England to try on my Laptop but still no luck. It can t be a fake as I bought it from a very reputable company, there are no signs of damage on it at all, it looks great.

The computers can see it but simply can t format it. I have even tried the program from SDCard. org and that doesn t work either, it sees it but upon starting the format it says Not Responding Other times it keeps asking me to remove the Lock but I have checked and it s definitely not locked.

Can anybody help me please.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I need your help.

I have a SDHC I Extreme 32gb - 45mb/s for 6 months, and was working fine until now.

When I put in my camera, didnt recognize as a compatible device. I use this card always in this same camera, but for some reason, is not working anymore.

When I try to connect the sd in my windows 7, windows ask to format, but dont give me the option to format in fat32. And when I try to format in another format, keep saying that is write protect, but is not.

I think that the card is overheating as well.

Someone, please, can help me.

Thanks

SD cards were originally only designed for capacities up to 1GB.  Changes were made to the specification which allowed capacities of 2GB to be realized.  But, in order for a device to be able to use a 2GB SD card, the device must be designed to address the memory space.  Unfortunately, not every device is able to do this, and there is no easy way to tell if the device is compatible without first calling the manufacturer of the device.

If a 2GB card is put into a device that only supports 1GB, the host device may ask to format the card and repartition it to 1GB.  This applies to full size SD, miniSD and microSD cards.

So, for example, I insert a 2GB SD card into a built-in card reader on a computer that is 4 years old.  When I attempt to access it, a need to format message may appear, and if I were to format the card and then check the capacity, it will read somewhere around 980 MB, instead of the 1.9 GB that I was expecting.

This will happen with any host device that is not compatible with 2GB cards; it can be a mobile phone, built in card reader, GPS unit, etc.

It is always best to contact the manufacturer of your device to find out if it is compatible with a specific capacity SD card.

If a card has been repartitioned to 1GB, it may be fixed by using a 3rd Party repartition tool.  Windows can not repartition USB Removable Disks in Disk Management.  A good program to use is the free HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool.  If you do an internet search for this tool you will find places to download it.

I am trying to send pictures from my PC to SanDisk and it come up with write-protected   Turn off protection or use different disk.

The lock is turned off on the card but I continue to get the error.

Hello. I bought a SanDisk 32gb Class 4 SDHC card here in Taiwan to use in my new Canon S95. I took it on a moist backpacking trip, where it worked fine, and then down to the sunny beaches of the south, where it worked fine. On our way back home, as I was looking at the pictures, I got a Memory Card Error message. I cannot format the card, it is not recognized when the camera is plugged in via USB, nor is it recognized by Device Manager, or when I put it in the card reader slot of my Asus R500V laptop with Windows 7. I blew out both slots in the computer and the camera, to no avail. Except once, when it was plugged into the computer, and I was able to edit some of the pictures. But when I tried to delete a picture, it took a minute, and then my rather new computer blue screened. I haven t gotten it to read since rebooting. Is there any hope for my card. Or for the pictures on it.

I ve been impatiently waiting for an 128Gb Micro SDXC card to use in my symbian mobile for some time. Are there any rumours about when one might come out. I hoped something might have been heard at CES perhaps Or educated guesses based on previous release timescales for the cards. I m not familiar with these

Are release dates for the cards regular and spaced out yearly or whatever for financial/economic reasons or might there be problems getting a 128Gb card to work reliably.

I have around 1.5TB of data that ideally I d like to carry around in my mobile so I will buy up many future doublings of capacity to come. I will never, ever, use cloud storage for my data.

Thanks in advance for an replies.

Hello my name is Martin and I have a problemo.

I formatted my card into EXFAT but now phone and PC running W7 wont regognize it anymore.

If I plug it in my pc I hear that sound but it will not pop up as a drive and device management it is visible as a usb card but my phone doesn ;t see it at all.

Please do help me it cost 80 euros and I m scared I cant use it anymore.

I purchased a 32GB Ultra UHS-I Class 10 Micro SDHC Card a few days ago SDSDQUA-032G-U46A and I m having problems.

I ve tested via a USB 2.0 Port with the card in an official Sandisk Micro USB Adapter.

1. Testing with h2testw results in the speed dropping from 11MB/S to 5.7MB after a prolonged period of time when doing a full capacity test.

2. Copying 28GB worth of files in one copy session to the card using Windows 7 results in the copying transaction failing after it s half way though almost as if the card becomes prematurely disconnected.

3. The card gets very hot.

4. Testing the card using the SD Card adapter results the card in transferring files at no more than 5MB/S however it doesn t randomly disconnect.

5. I already own a 8GB Ultra Micro SDHC UHS-I card which works fine and gives me consistent transfer speeds of 16MB/S Write 18MB/S read using the official Sandisk Micro USB Adapter via the same USB 2.0 port.

I ve been happy with my 8GB card and based on the performance of it I opted to buy the 32GB version however the problems I m facing with the 32GB card are very frustrating.

1.How can I resolve these issues.

2. Do I simply need a replacement or should I return to retailer and opt for a better card.

3. Can you guys recommend a more robust and reliable card.

4. Is this an SDXC card or an SDHC Card as per the packaging.

I have purchased about 2months ago a sandisk ultra microsd hdhc for my samsung galaxy tab2 7.0 from bestbuy, but everytime I try to write something to the card on my computer, it detects it being inserted, but gives me an error saying that the card can not be written to. My tablet reads it fine, but my computer cant, and I did install the windows 7 update for 32gb or larger cards. If someone could help me with this, that would be great.

So I had purchased the Sandisk Ultra 16GB 30mb/s and had used it in my camera to take pictures. It only has pictures and videos on it from my camera. When I take the Sandisk out and put it in my computer slot to upload my pictures from the sandisk, I go through My Computers and then I click on the drive for the Sandisk and when it opens up, I get folders like this:

Typically, the pictures would be in the DCIM, so I click on that folder and I get this error:

/IMG

The pictures are on the Sandisk because I can view them in the camera and when the Sandisk is in my computer, it says how much space is left on the Sandisk and that it s 3/4 full. I cannot get access to my pictures and I do not know what to do. For the vauufugx.exe I had googled and nothing came up. I am completely stumped and do not know what to do. My Sandisk was working prior to this and I had uploaded some of my pictures. Now this randomly happened and I don t know why. I ve also tried it on a different computer. Any help.

This is my card:

Bought an 16GB Sandisk memory card for my DSLR from Amazon.

Used to take about 30 photos, then put card to laptop to cut pictures. All done i forgot to do the safe remove and just removed the memory card. Then i reentered the card to DSLR and took 2 pictures and then fast shooted 5-6 more. Then i tryed to preview them and saw 2-3 pictures and got an Memory Card Error.

After that cant access the card either in laptop nor DSLR. Cant format in either aswell. In PC at computer management getting error : the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error

Is the card faulty or did i mess it up.

Had the card for 2-3 months on shelf. Got new DSLR today and sooooo angry at myself that cant use it anymore.

I have a Nook HD   and I bought a micro SD card to expand the memory in it. Use Win7 as my OS. Formatted the card in my computer as FAT32 and mounted it without trouble. After loading a few hundred books I noticed that the format of it while in the Nook is Generic Hierarchial. Erased it, unmounted it, reformatted it as exFAT32 this time - was told that with Win7 the exFAT format is the correct option. Remounted, reloaded and again its showing as a Generic Hierarchial card. Am I doing something wrong. Tried to load a few newer books 2 weeks ago and NOTHING is showing up as loaded on the card now..all those books are gone. Appreciate any help I can get as B N says that of course its not a Nook problem but a memory card problem.

Pookie

Just received my new SD card I bought because of the up to 45MB/s speeds for HD Video.

Decided to test it with:

H2testw 1.4                                                      Write: 20.6MB/s            Read: 21.6MB/s

CrystelDiskMark 3.0.2 x64                            Write: 22.36MB/s          Read: 23.76MB/s

I m sorry, but it doesn t make any sense to me. Spend extra money to get fast card and all I got is Ultra with Extreme label on it.

Is there anyone, who can explain this to me, please.

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards

Peter

Recently I ve found that there is mysterious power consumption when I write data to 4GB Sandisk sd cards, and the other sd cards didn t have such problems.

For example, the attached figure 1 shows the power consumption to write 1MB to the sd card in an Android smart phone x axis is the time and y axis is the power in mA. I monitored system calls and block IO, and it turns out the 1st pulse was due to the system call to write to the buffer cache, the 2nd pulse was because the operating system OS was flushing the data to SD card. While shortly after the 2nd pulse, there is a much wider pulse, and there is no corresponding system activity during that period. That mysterious pulse happened after writing about every 1.5MB. And it consumed more power than the sum of the first 2 pulses.

I wonder whether it s because of some low-lever operations of SD card like in the sd card controller, does anybody have any ideas.

The figure 2 shows an even worse scenario, where a lot of power was consumed for more than 7 seconds after writing. Users nowadays really care about the power consumption on their smart phones.

HI. The reading speed is up to 30Mb/s, but about writing speed is mentioned, that it s lower. But, how lower. How much is writing speed. I bought the memory on eBay auction from China. H2testw programm shows 23,4Mb/s reading and 5,73Mb/s - writing speed. Can the card be fake or those is real speeds.

I m new at this technology so forgive my ignorance.  I ordered a 4g memory card to go with my new LG cell phone and received the SD micro memory card and an adapter.  I have installed the memory card, but what do I do with the adapter.  I have a cord to connect my cell phone with my Mac to download photos, but I don t know what to do with the Adapter.

If you re having problem with recovering missing files with free software and doesn t want to pay for a data recovery program, why not purchase a SanDisk The best flash memory maker, based on my personal opinion product and get the exclusive offer of a 1 year subscription of RescuePRO Deluxe recovery software. It is cheaper since it comes with a SD Card or USB Thumbdrive.

RescuePRO Deluxe by LC Technology is a recovery software for digital media. It recovers images, photos, videos, documents, music and just about anything. Mini / Tiny USB Flash Drive vs Normal Flash Drive

Apart from having bigger capacity, the normal size flash drive comes with faster read write speed. Those slim, tiny and mini flash drives are slower and more often than not, they cannot be used for Windows ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost is a very useful feature when your system requires more memory, this works great on older system when upgrading your RAM is too expensive. The rule of thumb is to always get the fastest and best flash drive, avoid tiny usb flash drive. those normal size flash drive are not exactly that bulky.
